Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship is a family-class immigration pathway that allows eligible Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residence.

The program has limited intake and is currently paused for new applications. IRCC continues to process existing applications and will announce future intake details when available.

When Can You Apply for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship?

Who Can Apply for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship?

Sponsor generally must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
  • Live in Canada
  • Have sufficient income to support the sponsored family members
  • Provide required proof of income
  • Sign the required sponsorship undertaking
  • Meet all other applicable sponsorship requirements

Sponsored parents or grandparents must:

No. IRCC has currently paused new applications and is not accepting new interest-to-sponsor forms until further notice. Existing applications continue to be processed.
