What Is the Express Entry Stream?

The Express Entry Stream refers to immigration pathways that use Canada’s Express Entry system to select eligible skilled workers for permanent residence.

Express Entry manages three federal economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Canadian Experience Class
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program

Some Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) also have Express Entry-aligned streams. A provincial nomination through an Express Entry-linked stream can significantly increase a candidate’s CRS score.

Candidates who receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA) can submit their permanent residence application to IRCC.

Who May Be Eligible for an Express Entry Stream?

Skilled Workers With Foreign Experience

Applicants with qualifying skilled work experience outside Canada may be eligible for certain Express Entry programs.

Skilled Workers With Canadian Experience

Individuals with eligible Canadian skilled work experience may qualify under the Canadian Experience Class.

Skilled Trades Professionals

Eligible skilled trades workers may qualify through the Federal Skilled Trades Program if they meet the applicable requirements.

Candidates With Provincial Nomination

Applicants who receive a nomination through an Express Entry-linked Provincial Nominee Program may be able to enter or continue in the Express Entry system with additional CRS points.
